A Food Drive for Winnipeg Harvest
BY: Cheryl Braun | April 22, 2020

Our young adults traveled over 300 km to fill a truck from front to back - literally - full of dry goods for Winnipeg Harvest.
With the help of a few "older folks" (Jenn Wiens and Tammy Rempel) to get the congregation organized, Carter Wiens, Max Wiens, Nic Wiens, and Jessie Wiens travelled all over Winnipeg, into a bunch of bedroom communities, and onto a few farmayards to pick up soup, pasta, rice and whole host of other food items. Each team set off in a different direction from the Wiens homebase gathering up the boxes and bags that folks in our congregation set out on their front steps for them.
This was a total heart mission for Carter, who cares deeply for people who struggle to get their basic needs met and has a strong desire to help others in their time of need. It's hard to know how to help others and provide for them when you need to practice social distancing and so many organizations have had to temporarily close their doors to volunteers for the safety of their staff and their clients. A food drive seemed like a great way to not only help others, but to also connect the people in our congregation who are feeling very far apart during the pandemic. It was a great opporutnity for people to get involved and show others that they care.
Thank you to everyone who was able to donate! And a big thanks to our young instigators who have a heart for God and all God's children! You helped us all do a good thing.
